Investigation catches Rhuddlan lay-by fly-tipper

A fly-tipper who dumped waste in a Rhuddlan lay-by was tracked down following an investigation.

Denbighshire County Council’s Environmental Crime Team carried out a thorough investigation into the incident. The team gathered and examined evidence which ultimately enabled officers to identify the person responsible who lived several miles from the lay-by location

Following the investigation, the offender was issued with a £250 Fixed Penalty Notice for fly-tipping.

Jonathan Brittain-Hughes, Environmental Crime Manager at Denbighshire County Council, said:

“We are determined to reduce fly-tipping across Denbighshire and will continue to investigate incidents wherever they occur.

“This case shows that fly-tipping waste away from your home does not mean you will escape detection. Our officers carry out thorough investigations and will follow the evidence to identify those responsible.

“Fly-tipping blights our communities, costs money to clean up and can have a significant impact on the local environment. We will continue to take enforcement action against those who choose to dump their waste illegally.”

Cllr Barry Mellor, Denbighshire County Council’s Lead Member for Environment and Transport, added: “Fly-tipping is completely unacceptable and has no place in Denbighshire. It is particularly frustrating when waste is deliberately transported away from residential areas and dumped in lay-bys or other isolated locations.

“I welcome the work carried out by our Environmental Crime Team to identify the person responsible and issue this Fixed Penalty Notice. We will continue to support our officers in tackling environmental crime and protecting the communities and countryside across Denbighshire.”

Denbighshire County Council encourages residents to report fly-tipping and other environmental crime to help officers identify problem areas and take enforcement action against those responsible.
