Roof upgrades ongoing at two Rhyl schools
Two primary schools in Rhyl are seeing upgrades to their roofs as part of an ongoing programme of building modernisation.
Both projects form part of a long term phased maintenance programme of roof improvements, with the project at Ysgol Emmanuel on its fourth phase and Christchurch school on the sixth and final phase.
At Christchurch school, the works are concentrated on the flat roof portion of the school and includes new, hard wearing felt roofing installed together with significantly improved thermal insulation.

The upgrading work will also see 47 new roof windows added, replacing old for new, which will match the newer windows already installed at the school. The skylights will also be replaced and modernised at the same time.

Ysgol Emmanuel is currently seeing work on a pitched roof portion of the school which sits above two classrooms towards the front of the building.

The older, outdated clay tiles have been removed, and work on the installing the 120mm insulation is currently taking place.

Once completed, the pitched roof portion will be made of metal, replacing the older tile style, and will match the other recently completed roofs on the building.
These upgrades to both sites bring both energy efficiency and structural benefits, modernising key aspects whilst reducing future maintenance liabilities and ensures that both schools remain sustainable for future generations.
Both projects are being led and managed by the Council’s Building Maintenance Team.
Work at both sites is expected to finish in the Autumn.
This work is being funded through the Schools Capitalised Maintenance Programme.
Councillor Diane King, Lead Member for Education, Children and Families said:
“This work is part of our ongoing schedule to improve our school sites, bringing enhancements to their efficiency and safeguarding the future integrity of the school roofs at the same time.
Both primary schools will see this work finish in the Autumn.”
