What's new in Heritage for 2019

2019 Season

Over the winter, Denbighshire’s Heritage Service has been busy getting the sites ready for the 2019 Season. Rhyl Museum (within Rhyl Library) is open year round, whilst Plas Newydd (Llangollen), Ruthin Gaol and Nantclwyd Y Dre open for general visits from April, but are available for pre-booked groups all year round (see ‘Plan Your Visit’ below).

What’s new for 2019?

Brand new state of the art Audio Tours will be launched at Plas Newydd and Ruthin Gaol this spring.

With voiceover work provided by local people, these new tours will add a brand new layer of interactivity to the sites. The new system is easy to use, lightweight, and contains updated and new information about Plas Newydd and Ruthin Gaol and the people connected with these historic buildings.

There is also an all new interactive digital Children’s Tour to encourage younger audiences to explore and learn whilst taking part in a fun quiz.

All Audio Tours are available in Welsh and English, with more languages being added throughout 2019.

There are some fantastic events this year, new spring and summer trails at Plas Newydd, a big Nature Day at Nantclwyd Y Dre in June, Bat walks, garden talks, kids dressing up events and even a chance to be a prisoner at Ruthin Gaol!

Achieving Excellence

Ruthin Gaol, Plas Newydd and Rhyl Museum reached a high standard of excellence in 2018 and gained full Accredited Museum status following inspections carried out by Welsh Government. We’re delighted to have achieved full accreditation – it reflects the excellent customer service, hard work and dedication provided by our team.

All sites have also been awarded the Visit Wales Quality Assurance mark and Nantclwyd Y Dre and Ruthin Gaol have again won the Hidden Gem Accolade from Visit Wales.
