Progress on Ysgol y Castell classroom extension project

The classroom extension project at Ysgol y Castell in Rhuddlan has seen the joinery work completed on the roof, superstructure complete and scaffolding now removed.

Work will continue on the last two classrooms over the summer, along with completing the outside render and external play area. 

New doors will also be installed, with the hall set to receive new stage lighting. The solar panel install will also take place during this round of works.

The first set of classroom extensions at Ysgol y Castell were completed on schedule earlier in the year.

Once completed, the extensions will provide 16 square metres of addition classroom space in all four of the classrooms, producing a total extension of 64 square metres for pupil use and will see updated learning facilities added at the same time.

All works are set to be completed by Winter 2026.

This project is being delivered by BrynBuild Ltd and is 65% match funded by the Welsh Government, through its Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme. The remaining 35% of funding has primarily come from a developer’s contribution provided by the Tirionfa housing development in Rhuddlan.

The additional space provided by this project also allows upgrades to be made to the school, providing modern and updated facilities for both pupil use and teachers.

The first two classrooms are already in use by pupils, with the rest of this project not too far away from completion in the winter.”
