County to host unique rally checkpoint
Rhyl is set to host a checkpoint for a special rally with a greener difference

Rhyl is set to host a checkpoint for a special rally with a greener difference.
Backed by Transport for Wales, the third annual EV Rally Cymru will be making a stop at the West Kinmel EV charging hub, at Rhyl during the morning of October 22. (between 12:00 – 13:30)
The Rally, which starts the day before in Cardiff and works its way up to a final stop at Deeside, is designed to show that switching to EV is possible for drivers of all vehicles and that the charging infrastructure is there to help this type of travel across Wales.
This year, the event sees a focus on the world of eHGV, with a number of these vehicles as part of a group of 25 entering West Kinmel charging hub, before moving on to Wrexham.
Funded by the Welsh Government to support the public transition to EV transport, the charging hub offers a mix of rapid 50kW and fast 7kW chargers for local users who have no access to off street parking across 36 spaces. Three of the parking bays and charging units are specifically allocated for disabled users.
The Council will also have four of its own EV fleet at the charging hub to welcome the Rally into the checkpoint.
Members of the public will still be able to use the pay and display general area of the car park and can also visit the Rally vehicles whilst they stop off.
“We are delighted to welcome EV Rally Cymru to the West Kinmel charging hub. It is a great opportunity to showcase the facilities available here in Rhyl and to demonstrate how electric vehicles can support a cleaner, more sustainable future for transport across Wales.
Cllr James Elson, lead member for Environment and Transport said : “Since declaring a climate and nature emergency in 2019, the Council has continued to reduce its environmental impact, including transitioning its fleet to greener alternatives wherever operationally possible. Having four of our own electric vehicles at the hub to welcome the rally reflects the practical progress being made.
“We also recognise that residents need convenient and reliable charging options if they are to feel confident making the switch to electric vehicles. That is why we have created a public network of charging facilities across the county, helping to make lower emission travel a realistic choice for more people.”
