Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment 2026

Denbighshire County Council is working to produce an up-to-date needs assessment for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation in Denbighshire.

Denbighshire County Council is working to produce an up-to-date needs assessment for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation in Denbighshire.

The Council has a legal duty to undertake a new Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (GTAA) every five years as a requirement of The Housing (Wales) Act 2014 (Part 3 - S101). This assessment is about identifying accommodation needs. It is not about identifying suitable sites in the county.

Working alongside ‘arc4’, the company who have been commissioned to undertake the assessment work, this work will help the Council identify the current and future accommodation needs of Gypsy and Traveller communities. The findings will inform future housing and planning policies and assist the Council in meeting its statutory responsibilities.

Councillor Geraint Lloyd-Williams, Lead Member for Housing, Local Development Plan and Communities, said:

“It is important that we have an accurate and up-to-date understanding of the accommodation needs of Gypsy and Traveller communities in Denbighshire.

“This assessment will give families and individuals an opportunity to share their experiences and views, helping us to understand both current and future accommodation needs. We want to ensure that the process is respectful, inclusive and gives members of the community an opportunity to have their voices heard.

“The information gathered will help inform our future housing and planning policies and support us in meeting our statutory responsibilities. I would encourage members of the Gypsy and Traveller community in Denbighshire to take part if they are able to do so.”

The process will involve arc4 talking to Gypsy and Traveller families and will run until Monday 16th November

If you are a Gypsy or Traveller and live in Denbighshire, or you know of family or friends from the Gypsy and Traveller community who would like to take part in this survey, please ask them to contact arc4 on freephone 0800 612 9133 or e-mail michael.bullock@arc4.co.uk.
