Step back in time to discover stories about Ruthin at a free heritage event this half term
Hosted by North East Wales Archives (based at Ruthin Gaol Museum) on 27 October, the event will feature film, creativity and opportunities to explore local history as part of World Audiovisual Heritage Day 2026.
Inspired by this year's theme, "Your Window to the World", the event will showcase how archives can help people discover new perspectives on their community and its history.
Visitors can watch a specially curated film of Ruthin through the decades, create archive-inspired postcards, and explore an exhibition of historic photographs, including Victorian Carte de Visite portraits.
The afternoon will also feature the first public screening of two new short films commissioned by Archives Wales, highlighting the stories and treasures waiting to be discovered in local archives.
Councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Denbighshire County Council's Lead Member for Education and Children, Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage, said: "Archives help bring our history to life, connecting us with the people, places and stories that have shaped our communities. This event is a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors of all ages to explore Ruthin's heritage, discover fascinating records from the past and even create their own connections with local history. I would encourage everyone to come along and see what treasures our archives have to offer."
The event is free, family-friendly and open to all.
