Caught in the Act: Ruthin Fly-Tipper Issued £250 Fixed Penalty Notice

A person caught fly-tipping in Ruthin has been issued with a £250 Fixed Penalty Notice following action by Denbighshire County Council’s Environmental Crime Officers.

The Council’s Environmental Crime & Behaviour Change Team is continuing to take a proactive approach to tackling environmental crime across the county, with officers carrying out investigations and gathering evidence where waste is found to have been illegally discarded.

In this case, officers were able to identify the person responsible and take enforcement action, resulting in the £250 Fixed Penalty being issued.

Fly-tipping can have a lasting impact on the places where people live, work and visit. Whether it is a small amount of household waste or a larger deposit, the Council will investigate where there is sufficient evidence to identify those responsible.

Jonathan Brittain-Hughes, Environmental Crime Manager at Denbighshire County Council, said:

“This is another example of our officers being out in our communities and taking action against those responsible for fly-tipping.

“Fly-tipping is not simply about someone leaving a bag of rubbish behind. It affects the appearance of our communities, can cause environmental harm and creates additional work and costs to clean up waste that should never have been there in the first place.

“We want people to think twice before illegally disposing of waste. Our message is simple – dispose of your waste responsibly and don’t give it to someone unless you are satisfied that they are authorised to take it.”

The Council is encouraging residents to report fly-tipping when they see it and, where possible, provide information that could help officers identify those responsible.

The investigation and enforcement of environmental crime forms part of Denbighshire County Council’s wider work to improve the cleanliness of communities and reduce the amount of waste being illegally deposited across the county.
