Fly-tipper traced and fined after dumping waste in Rhyl alleyway

A person who illegally dumped household waste in a Rhyl alleyway has been fined following an investigation by Denbighshire County Council's Environmental Crime Team.

Several bags of household waste were left against a wall in the alleyway, creating an eyesore for local residents and leaving the clean-up burden for others. However, evidence found within the waste enabled officers to identify the individual responsible.

Environmental Crime Officers carried out enquiries and followed a range of evidence, ultimately leading to enforcement action being taken against the offender who was issued with a £250 Fixed Penalty Notice

Jonathan Brittain-Hughes, Environmental Crime Manager at Denbighshire County Council, said: "Unfortunately, some people still seem to think that if they leave their waste in an alleyway, someone else will simply come along and clear it up.

"What people don't always consider is that the waste itself can provide valuable evidence. Our officers investigate incidents using a range of methods, including CCTV footage, witness information and evidence found within the waste itself. Where we can establish who is responsible, we will take appropriate enforcement action."

Councillor James Elson, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “Nobody should have to put up with the sight of illegally dumped waste in their neighbourhood. Fly-tipping is not only unsightly, but it can also have a negative impact on local communities, the environment and the pride residents take in the places where they live.

“We are committed to tackling this issue across Denbighshire and will continue to investigate reports thoroughly and take enforcement action wherever there is sufficient evidence to do so. Cases such as this send a clear message that fly-tipping is unacceptable and that those responsible can and will be held accountable for their actions.
