Transformation of Rhyl Leisure Centre complete

As part of a £2.5 million investment by Denbighshire Leisure into its facilities this year, exercise for members of Rhyl Leisure Centre has now been transformed. Customers are delighted with their new look centre, which has seen the gym become the first in North Wales to have the full Technogym Skill Line available.   An exciting series of fitness zones has also been created and the changing areas have been refurbished to the highest standards.

A former drama room on the site has been dramatically redesigned to provide a functional training area offering suspension trainers, punch bags, and plyometric boxes amongst others. Also a range of equipment for a programme of the popular HIIT training has been introduced.

Fans of group cycling are also enjoying new virtual classes in their dedicated cycle studio.

I swim at Rhyl Leisure Pool at the family swim on a Sunday. Until recently the ladies showers were so cold that I could not use them. This went on for over 8 weeks before my written complaints got acknowledged and something was done about it. The pool on a Sunday is still too cold. I was told it is because it is a training pool but only approx 6 serious swimmers use it on a Sunday afternoon. The rest of us go for a very cold family swim. Could it not be a cold training pool for the 6 days a week for training and on a Sunday be warmer for the general public. It is cleaned out for Monday’s sessions so it would not be too warm for the 6 days training? It seems that on a Sunday the temperature is lead by a small minority of the pool users whilst the rest of us freeze. I have now stopped using the pool and will not return until the pool temperature improves. Luckily there are other pool in North Wales that are all warmer but it is sad that locals have to vote with their feet.

    Hi Linda

Below is a message received from Leisure Services:

Thank you for your feedback.  With regard to the pool, we have recently been trialling an increase in the temperature from 26.5 degrees to 28 degrees.   Unfortunately we cannot raise and lower the temperature for specific sessions, but always follow guidance set out by the Pool Water Advisory Group.  This higher temperature puts us in the middle of the range for recreational swimming and the top of the range for competitive swimming.  We are also reviewing the air temperature, as this can affect swimmers when getting in and out.

We are in the process of improving our feedback to customers when repair and maintenance issues are raised.  Unfortunately, the repair of the showers took longer than expected due to several parts being required, but we are pleased to report, they are now in full working order.

    Regards

As a regular user of the Swimming Pool it's about time the water temperature was set to an acceptable level. It's always freezing cold. Only eclipsed by even colder showers in the Changing Rooms. Despite countless written complaints nothing is ever done to resolve the issues. The same line is trotted out to excuse the low pool temperatures - 'you see it's a training pool'. Really, well it's ALSO a fee paying Public Pool. Absolutely disgraceful.
