Updated kitchen for Rhyl Primary School

Ysgol Llywelyn in Rhyl has received a new refurbishment and upgrades to its kitchen as part of phase one of the Universal Primary Free School Meals roll out.

These new additions and upgrades include a full remodel of the kitchen, increased storage with a new walk-in fridge and freezer and new cooking equipment to increase cooking capacity.

Since September 2022, the Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM) offer in Denbighshire has been successfully rolled out to Reception Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. The phased delivery approach will see all primary pupils offered free school meals by 2024. The Council recently started to offer Universal Primary Free School Meals to all Year 2 pupils in Denbighshire from the 17th of April.

Further works will be taking place at the school and will include a small extension and walkway from the kitchen to the hall to provide additional dining capacity.

Councillor Gill German, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Education, Children and Families said:

“These new renovations and upgrades to the catering equipment and kitchen allows the authority to successfully deliver the Universal Primary Free School Meals roll out. I am glad to see that these are benefiting both the catering staff within the school, as well as the children who are receiving the meals.

A nutritious meal at lunchtime is vital to a child’s learning and development throughout the school day”.

Geraint Davies, Head of Education and Councillor Gill German, Lead Member
