Major refurbishment of Prestatyn High School block nearing completion

A full block refurbishment at Denbighshire’s biggest school is nearing completion.

The work on Block 2 at Prestatyn High School began in June and has seen a full internal rip-out and remodel of the whole interior of the block.

Work is well underway on the rewire, reskimming and refit of three IT classrooms, two home economics classrooms, two office spaces, a staff room, and five other classrooms.

The work, which is being undertaken by Bryn Build Ltd, will see a total modernisation of 12 rooms once completed.

The project is being led and managed by the Council’s Building Maintenance Team.

As well as the modernisation of the rooms, the equipment and technology within the rooms are seeing upgrades.

Refurbishment work on one of the home economics classrooms

This refurb has been designed in conjunction with the teachers at the school, ensuring that the design is compatible with the day-to-day operations of the classrooms.

The new layout has also been designed around two lifts which were previously installed, better integrating them into the building and the flow of the classrooms.

As well as the block refurbishment work, the drama classroom, which sits above the school hall, is also being remodelled, with a brand-new lift block designed, constructed and added to ensure accessible access to the refurbished classroom.

Handover for these projects is set for September, before term starts.

The projects are being funded through the School Capitalised Maintenance Programme together with support from Modernising Education, with over £600,000 being invested into the school through these projects.

“This massive project has been earmarked and subsequently actioned to modernise yet another block at Prestatyn High School.

The work has been extensive, with total rewires and redesigns taking place, bringing a fresh new look and higher-quality facilities to a very busy block at the school.

I look forward to the block opening in time for the school year to begin, and for it to be used by both the pupils and staff.”
