New classroom facilities taking shape at Ysgol y Castell

The extension and refurbishment project at Ysgol y Castell has seen work progressing well over the summer holiday period.

The project, which represents a total investment of over £1.7 million, began in the summer of 2025 and will provide extra space upgrades in four of the existing classrooms once fully complete.

The extension will provide 16 square metres of additional classroom space in all four of the classrooms, producing a total extension of 64 square metres for pupil use and will see updated learning facilities added at the same time.

Extensive work over the summer period means all the new classrooms are now in use.

External rendering and painting of the new extension has also been completed with downpipe installs and yard painting due to be completed over the next few weeks.

The whole school saw door replacements throughout the building along with work taking place to upgrade firestopping measures, improving the resilience and safety of the school site.

Further decorative works will be required across the site associated with the door replacements, and remaining snagging and some firestopping works will also be progressed during the October half term period.

The project is on track for full completion in line with the original programme, with completion set for winter of this year.

This project is being delivered by BrynBuild Ltd and is funded by the Welsh Government, through its Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, developer’s contribution provided by the Tirionfa housing development in Rhuddlan, and Denbighshire County Council.

Councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Education and Children, Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage said:

“This extension and refurbishment project at Ysgol y Castell in Rhuddlan is set to provide improved space and updated learning facilities, with a total extension of 64 square metres added once complete.

I am really pleased with the progress of this project, and we are already seeing some of the extra space and improvements being utilised by pupils and teachers. The project is on track for full completion by the end of the year, in line with the original programme of works.

This investment solidifies our commitment to providing high-quality education across the whole of the county and ensures that Ysgol y Castell’s pupils, current and future, will benefit from upgraded space and improved facilities for years to come.”
