Work to start on Rhyl coastal compound removal

Work is shortly set to commence to remove the site compound that was set up and used for the duration of the coastal protection scheme at Marine Drive, Rhyl.

The work is due to commence on 26th October 2026 and is expected to be complete by Friday 13th November 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions and any unforeseen circumstances.

This will involve the removal of the compound hardstanding areas and reinstatement of the site to that of its previous condition.

Hoarding and fencing will remain in place temporarily to secure the site during the construction works. Following completion, the site will be reopened for public recreational use.

The main elements of the works taking place will include:

  • General site clearance.
  • Removal of existing hardstanding using a road planer
  • Filling with road planings
  • Excavation of existing stockpiled sub soil
  • Filling using existing sub soil
  • Removal of the existing vehicle access off Marine Drive and reinstatement the footway.
  • Fencing

Councillor James Elson, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We are pleased to able to commence work to return this compound back to what it was before the coastal flood defence works. I know local residents have been keen to see this happen and this work will enable the area to be used by the public once more.

“The Council will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible and minimise disruption for all in the surrounding area.”
