Once complete, the Community Hub will provide a versatile space for local residents, community groups and organisations. The facility will offer meeting rooms and hall space for social, recreational and community activities, while also creating opportunities for external organisations to hire the venue.

The Hub will be overseen by a dedicated Management Committee made up of local community representatives.

The £2,700,000 project is partly funded by the Welsh Government through its Welsh Language Capital and Universal Primary Free School Meals grant to provide a new classroom and state of the art kitchen for the primary school, whilst the community hub is funded by the UK Government as part of grant funding for 10 capital projects aimed at protecting Ruthin’s unique heritage, wellbeing and rural communities.

A significant proportion of the construction work of the Community Hub has been completed, with work to fit out the internal areas underway.

Recent work has seen the Community kitchen aspect of the project installed. The fit out of this part of the project included the installation of the cupboard units, and fridge freezer. The fit out of the oven, extractor fan and utility are to be completed soon.

The classroom extension will provide a significant improvement in teaching accommodation and ancillary space to the school.

Councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Education, Families, Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage said:

“Work is progressing well on this project, with hand over set for the end of Autumn.

This project has been a long time coming, and will provide an invaluable space for not just the school, but the wider community.

The investment in this new facility will allow both residents and pupils to thrive, with a modern community kitchen space being installed, as well as meeting rooms and a hall space, for social, recreational and community activities.

A state-of-the-art kitchen for the primary school, as well as a new classroom are also being installed as part of this project.”

Catrin Phillips, Headteacher at Ysgol Bro Elwern said:

"It has been wonderful to see the extension and community hub project at Ysgol Bro Elwern progressing so well.

Once complete, this will mark a wonderful new chapter for our school, and we are delighted about the opportunities it will provide for our pupils and wider school community. As a school, we would like to thank everyone that has made this project possible."
