Pupils at Ysgol Bro Elwern have been given an exciting glimpse into the future of their school, enjoying a guided tour of the new extension and Community Hub currently under construction on the school site.

Led by construction partner SWG, pupils were taken through the development to learn more about the building process and gain an insight into what the completed facilities will offer. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to explore key areas of the new building, including the community lobby, hall and one of their future classrooms.

Ysgol Bro Elwern 2Construction work continues to progress well, with the main structure now in place and installation of the windows due to be completed shortly.

The £2.7 million project is partly funded by the Welsh Government through its Welsh Language Capital and Universal Primary Free School Meals grant to provide a new classroom and state of the art kitchen for the primary school, whilst the community hub is funded by the UK Government as part of grant funding for 10 capital projects aimed at protecting Ruthin’s unique heritage, wellbeing and rural communities.

Once completed, the Community Hub will provide a versatile space for local residents, community groups and organisations. The facility will offer meeting rooms and hall space for social, recreational and community activities, while also creating opportunities for external organisations to hire the venue. The Hub will be overseen by a dedicated Management Committee made up of local community representatives.

Councillor Diane King, Denbighshire County Council's Lead Member for Education, Children and Families, said: “It’s fantastic to see the progress being made on this important project which will provide lasting benefits for both the school and the wider community. Seeing the pupils touring the site and gain an understanding of how their extension and the Community Hub is built  has been invaluable to them. I look forward to seeing the completed building in the autumn.”
